Update Information
I have now added the deadwood, or rising wood, to the ship. Despite its name it was quite important, as it was on these timbers that the frames rested. Elm was used for the lower timbers, and the scarphs were between those of the keel timbers, so as to strengthen the keel. The remaining pieces were constructed from oak. The deadwood was effectively a massive knee holding the stem and sternposts to the keel.
