Update Information
Started work testing materials (gold foil) and on the solar panels. The solar cells are actually modelled, as a) poly count is not an issue, and b) you get better quality results that way. These panels are a proof of concept, and will be implemented using this method on the new arms I shall build. The gold foil material is purely procedural, and appears to work very well.
